Under the Weather Bear

We are so fortunate the Ellie has only been ill a few times in her life.  For that, I am extremely thankful!  Even during times of illness, Ellie rallies and still plays.

Yesterday was not the case.  This particular bout of illness is really affecting my little Bear-Bear.  There is nothing worse for a mother than hearing her child be in pain and not being able to fix it.  I mean, that is our job as mamas, to make our babies better, right?

This was yesterday.  She has a sore throat.  No fever.  No other symptoms that I can tell.  She has the same thing all of her other little friends have. . . Who says kids do not like to share?

Poor Baby Bear did this whether I held her, rocked her, laid her in her crib...
That is water running down her arm because she spit it out.

She is still screaming.  Poor Bear couldn't even sleep but was SO TIRED.

She wouldn't drink anything for the life of me.  She would spit out her Motrin, Tylenol, and reflux meds.  I tried water, milk, pedialyte, unfrozen pedialyte pops, frozen pedialyte pops, apple sauce (high fluid content foods), etc. etc, etc. I had to resort to using a syringe to administer fluids and even then she would spit half of that out.  My medical training did not prepare for when it is my OWN kiddo.

I will tell you that I did the happy dance when she had potty pants last night (finally!) before bed and again when she woke up.   I was starting to get a little worried about her hydration status.

This is today.

This is later this morning.  Notice she is not crying or screaming or lying on the floor screaming.

What to know why?  Sometimes you have to think outside-the-box.

Sophie dog!  Ta-da dadada da!

Yes, I took my sick little girl outside into 100+ degree heat.

Not crying.  Transfixed by the Sophie Puppy Paws.

Not crying.  I actually got her to drink 3.5 servings (of 14 oz) of sugar-free apple sauce.  That is A LOT of apple sauce.

When Mama couldn't make it all better, but her best buddy could.

The moral of the story: everyone should own a border collie.
